Kucinich receives pro-impeachment petitions with more than 120K signatures

Impeachment train continues to pick up steam.

House Resolution 333, Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney authored by Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) is slowly picking up support. As of July 27, 2007 there are now 15 Congress Members for Impeachment.

Make calls to their office daily, send them emails, better yet make an appointment to meet with them face to face. This coming week is the last week for business in Washington before their Summer District Work Period. So your representatives will be doing local work from August 6th through Labor Day. Lets get our congress people fired up about impeachment and send them back to Washington in September ready to sign on as co-sponsors. Just a few more co-sponsors is all we need and John Conyers (D-MI) will get this thing moving in the House Judiciary Committee.

CLEVELAND, OH – More than half of all Americans support bringing Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney, according to a poll released today. Articles of Impeachment were filed in April by Ohio Congressman and Democratic Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, and it has 14 co-sponsors.

According to the New Hampshire-based American Research Group, 54% of adults favor proceeding with impeachment proceedings against Cheney. Among Democrats, the support for impeachment is 76%, and among those who identified themselves as "Independents," the support is 51%. Even 17% of Republicans said they favor impeachment.

The poll was based on 1,100 interviews among a random sample of adults nationwide July 3 – 5. Of the total sample, 933 interviews were completed with registered voters.

When he introduced his bill (H.R. 333), Kucinich said, "The Vice President actively and systematically sought to deceive the citizens and Congress about an alleged threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction. He has purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive us about the relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda. And he openly lied to the America people and has publicly threatened aggression against Iran."

Kucinich also said at the time that he was acting in "response to the concerns of millions of Americans who have felt that the Vice President must be accountable for his false statements." The poll results appear to prove he was right. None of the other Democratic Presidential candidates has expressed support for Kucinich's bill.

"It's not a happy day when most Americans believe that the Vice President of the United States lied, deceived, misled the American people and violated his oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution -- not to mention the other actions and abuses that are beginning to attract Congressional attention," Kucinich said. "But," he added, "every elected official in this nation, especially the highest elected officials, must be held accountable for their actions; and impeachment is the Constitutional mechanism to hold the Vice President accountable and to protect our democracy."

National polls have also shown an overwhelming support for Kucinich's other key positions: withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq, a national health insurance plan that covers all Americans, the repeal of disastrous trade policies, specifically NAFTA, and the erosion of civil liberties enabled by the passage of the so-called Patriot Act.

“Over a month ago, I stood up on behalf of the America people who were expressing concern about whether or not Congress was going to respond to the trampling of our Constitution that was going on.

Dennis Kucinich files articles of impeachment against Dick Cheney

It is now official, Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) has filed three articles of impeachment against Vice President Cheney. Kucinich a six term congressman had been tossing the idea around for the past month by making several videos asking United States citizens to let him know what they thought. The videos have been posted to his campaign's YouTube page and had received great support.

The articles are embodied in H.R. 333.. The entire resolution is a 18 page detailed entry but below I have listed the meat of it.

1.The Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney, has purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States by fabricating a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction to justify the use of the United States Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq in a manner damaging to our national security interests.

2.The Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney, has purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States about an alleged relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda in order to justify the use of the United States Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq in a manner damaging to our national security interests.

3.In his conduct while Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney, in violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of Vice President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has openly threatened aggression against the Republic of Iran absent any real threat to the United States, and done so with the United States proven capability to carry out such threats, thus undermining the national security of the United States.

The looks of it are good, but what will the rest of the house think? The way the house votes these days it seems like there aren't many congresspeople working for there constituents any more. They think the only people that matter are the big donors funding their runs. So if impeachment is what you want make sure you call your congressperson and let them have a ear full. And just maybe after enough see they are working for us they will snap to reality before they find the unemployment line.

Cheney to Face Impeachment

Impeachment may be on the table afterall. After making several videos that were put on his official Presidential Campaign and YouTube websites asking supportor's opinions on the issue, Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) and Presidential Candidate seems to be moving forward with the idea. Rumor has it that Kucinich sent a Dear Colleague letter to his fellow Congressmen last weekend. In the letter Kucinich said he would be filing Articles of Impeacement against Vice President Dick Cheney. The charges against Cheney were not disclosed in the letter and are unknown at this time. It is being said those articles were intended to be filed this past week, but have been postponed until Wednesday, April 25, 2007 due to the tragic events at Virginia Tech.

Washington, Mar 15 - WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 15) — Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) gave the following speech on the floor of the House of Representatives today:

“This House cannot avoid its constitutionally authorized responsibility to restrain the abuse of Executive power.

“The Administration has been preparing for an aggressive war against Iran. There is no solid, direct evidence that Iran has the intention of attacking the United States or its allies.

“The United States is a signatory to the U.N. Charter, a constituent treaty among the nations of the world. Article II, Section 4 of the U.N. Charter states, “All members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state. . .” Even the threat of a war of aggression is illegal.

“Article VI of the U.S. Constitution makes such treaties the Supreme Law of the Land. This Administration, has openly threatened aggression against Iran in violation of the U.S. Constitution and the U.N. Charter.

“This week the House Appropriations Committee removed language from the Iraq war funding bill requiring the Administration, under Article 1, Section 8, Clause 11 of the Constitution, to seek permission before it launched an attack against Iran.

“Since war with Iran is an option of this Administration and since such war is patently illegal, then impeachment may well be the only remedy which remains to stop a war of aggression against Iran.”

Kucinich has consistently spoken out on the House floor and been an advocate for bringing to light the war this Administration is appearing to prepare against Iran.

With every passing day, war with Iran seems to be getting more and more imminent. And with Bush arrogant as ever, proclaiming that he is the decision maker. This could be the last straw for the democratic majority congress and impeachment proceedings could finally get underway. Kucinich: The White House Is Up To Its Old Tricks; Is Preparing the United States for an Attack on Iran : President’s Actions Could Lead to Impeachment


Washington, Jan 26 - WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 26) — Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) accused the White House of mounting a media blitz to prepare the U.S. public for an eventual attack on Iran. Today The Washington Post reported the Bush administration has authorized the U.S. military to kill or capture Iranian operatives inside Iraq as part of an aggressive new strategy to weaken Tehran’s influence across the Middle East.

“The White House is up to its old tricks again: Providing information by anonymous sources and portraying Iran as an aggressor in Iraq,” Kucinich said.

“The President is mischaracterizing U.S. action vis à vis Iran. In fact, the U.S. is already engaged in offensive and provocative acts against Iran. The President’s strategy, by portraying our involvement as only being on the defensive, is laying out the groundwork for him to attack Iran and bypass authorization by Congress,” Kucinich said.

The Washington Post article stated:
“A senior intelligence officer was more wary of the ambitions of the strategy. ‘This has little to do with Iraq. It’s all about pushing Iran’s buttons. It is purely political.’ The official expressed similar views about other new efforts aimed at Iran, suggesting that the United States is escalating toward an unnecessary conflict to shift attention away from Iraq and to blame Iran for the United States’ increasing inability to stanch the violence there.”

Kucinich said, “The White House spin machine is at it again: this time providing justification for a new war — a war against Iran.” Kucinich pointed out that while the term ‘officials’ is mentioned 21 times in the Post article — not once are the officials identified by name.

In his January 10 address to the nation, President Bush asserted that succeeding in Iraq begins with addressing Iran and Syria. “Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops. We will disrupt the attacks on our forces. We'll interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria. And we will seek out and destroy the networks providing advanced weaponry and training to our enemies in Iraq,” Bush said.

“The Washington Post is quoting strategically placed Administration sources who are providing justification for an attack against Iran,” Kucinich said. “This new twist on Iran, a country this Administration refuses to have free and open diplomatic talks with, is stating the Administration’s case for war.”

“The degree to which this President continues to take steps to go to war against Iran without consulting with the full Congress is the degree to which he is increasingly putting himself in jeopardy of an impeachment proceeding,” Kucinich said.
