Kucinich Challenges Obama Assertion during S.C. Debate that Iran is Developing Nuclear Weapon Technology

During the Democratic Debate on April 26, 2007, Dennis Kucinich and Barack Obama exchanged views over Iran. Obama voiced views that are very similar to the views many mistakenly showed about Iraq in 2002.

The following article is from Dennis Kucinich's presidential campaign website http://kucinich.us

Kucinich Challenges Obama Assertion during S.C. Debate that Iran is Developing Nuclear Weapon Technology

Washington, DC - - Presidential candidate and US Congressman Dennis Kucinich Friday challenged Senator Barack Obama's assertion, made in an exchange with Kucinich in Thursday's Democratic Presidential Debate in Orangeburg, South Carolina, that Iran is in the process of developing nuclear weapons.

"In last night's debate, Senator Obama revealed that he has fallen into the same trap which wrongly took us into war against Iraq. In one breath he conjured Iran as a threat: ('But, have no doubt, Iran possessing nuclear weapons will be a major threat to us and to the region.')

"And in the next breath he asserted that according to experts, Iran is developing nuclear weapons. : ' . . . but they're in the process of developing it. And I don't think that's disputed by any expert.' "Where is Senator Obama's proof for such a provocative statement?" Kucinich asked.

Kucinich said that in the exchange with Senator Obama he tried to interject the fact that Mohammed El Baradei of the International Atomic Energy Agency, recently asserted " . the difference between acquiring knowledge and having a bomb is at least five to ten years away. And that's why I said the intelligence, the British, intelligence, the American intelligence, is saying that Iran is still years, five to ten years away from developing a weapon. "

Senator Obama's assertion is eerily reminiscent of the statements of President George Bush, Vice President Cheney and other top ranking members of the Bush Administration, who, back in 2002 and 2003 falsely claimed Iraq was a threat to the United States and our allies, that Iraq was developing weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons capability.

Kucinich at the time wrote and circulated an analysis http://kucinich.us/iraqplan of all false claims made by the Bush Administration. "Clearly all other Senators running for President failed to read the easily accessible intelligence reports, hence their alleged 'mistaken' vote to invade Iraq," said Kucinich, the only Democratic Presidential candidate to vote against both the authorization for war and any funding of the war.

"While Iran has taken steps to develop nuclear power, which is the right of all signatories to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever they are developing nuclear weapons," explained Kucinich.

"Senator Obama's doctrine with respect to Iran is 'All options are on the table,' which is unmistakably a euphemism for the consideration of a preemptive attack against Iran, including the use of nuclear weapons, which the Administration has shipped to the region. Senator Obama's rhetoric parrots speeches given by both President Bush and Vice President Cheney, as well as Democratic Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and John Edwards regarding Iran."

"When you consider that last month the Congress took out of the Iraq Supplemental appropriation a provision that would have required congressional approval of a military attack on Iran, Senator Obama's faulty analysis and his mischaracterizations license an attack. This is the same kind of disastrous, faulty thinking that led us into war against Iraq and raises serious questions about Senator Obama's judgement on matters of national security."

Kucinich has long advocated reestablishing diplomatic ties with Iran as a means of deescalating tensions, opening up full diplomatic relations, resuming meaningful inspections of Iran's nuclear power program, and enlisting Iran's support in helping to end the war in Iraq.

Barack Obama remains the trend-setter in Week 4 on MySpace, as he continues to pick up more friends than any other candidate. Hillary Clinton continues to build a cushion between herself and John Edwards as she has now outfriended Edwards three consecutive weeks. Second tier candidates are a considerible distance behind the top tier candidates and they all had decent weeks by their standards by each adding over 1500 friends each. Second tier candidate of the week goes to Dennis Kucinich. Kucinich made the only move in the power rankings, moving past Bill Richardson after a super week.

John Edwards stopped Barack Obama's dominance on YouTube. I have moved Edwards up to the top of the power rankings after his second consecutive strong week. He received (300) more subscriptions than Obama. Hillary Clinton did not fair as well on YouTube this past week as she barely beat out second tier candidates in subscriptions received. Second tier candidates are a considerible distance behind the top tier candidates but Dennis Kucinich is slowly distancing himself out of the crowd and with his impeachment of Cheney now filed, I could see him get even stronger in the coming weeks. The best matchup I see over the next few weeks will be Bill Richardson and Joe Biden. Richardson is only (44) subscriptions ahead of Biden. One thing for certain is Chris Dodd has no support coming in on the social networks to date. Over the past 3 weeks, Dodd has gained only (41) YouTube subscriptions which is not going to cut it for a candidate needing to spread his meassage.

Dennis Kucinich files articles of impeachment against Dick Cheney

It is now official, Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) has filed three articles of impeachment against Vice President Cheney. Kucinich a six term congressman had been tossing the idea around for the past month by making several videos asking United States citizens to let him know what they thought. The videos have been posted to his campaign's YouTube page and had received great support.

The articles are embodied in H.R. 333.. The entire resolution is a 18 page detailed entry but below I have listed the meat of it.

1.The Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney, has purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States by fabricating a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction to justify the use of the United States Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq in a manner damaging to our national security interests.

2.The Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney, has purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States about an alleged relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda in order to justify the use of the United States Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq in a manner damaging to our national security interests.

3.In his conduct while Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney, in violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of Vice President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has openly threatened aggression against the Republic of Iran absent any real threat to the United States, and done so with the United States proven capability to carry out such threats, thus undermining the national security of the United States.

The looks of it are good, but what will the rest of the house think? The way the house votes these days it seems like there aren't many congresspeople working for there constituents any more. They think the only people that matter are the big donors funding their runs. So if impeachment is what you want make sure you call your congressperson and let them have a ear full. And just maybe after enough see they are working for us they will snap to reality before they find the unemployment line.

Chicagoland Environmentalists Cheer Kucinich

Dennis Kucinich has the track record to prove his environmental stand. And 1000's of Chicagoland enviromentalists were lucky enough to spend Earth Day, listening to Kucinich speak about the ideas he will make happen when he becomes president in November 2008.

The following article is from Dennis Kucinich's presidential campaign website http://kucinich.us

Chicagoland Environmentalists Cheer Kucinich

CHICAGO -- Thousands of environmental activists celebrated Earth Day in Chicago Sunday, cheering the national leadership promised by Democratic Presidential hopeful Dennis Kucinich. There was wild cheering as Kucinich promised a 'WGA' to rival FDR's WPA when he wins the White House in 2008.

Kucinich was the only Presidential candidate to speak at one of the largest Earth Day events in the United States. The six-term Congressman, who has a record to back up his leadership for alternative 'green' technologies, told the thousands of activists who gathered at McCormick Place on Lake Shore Drive that his administration will bring prosperity to the United States, as he would support the development of new, clean energies that will be earth friendly.

Kucinich tied the present-day global war to global warming, saying the environmental impact of war is ECOCIDE. The crowd interrupted his speech 30 times with tremendous applause. Kucinich is the only candidate running for the Democratic nomination who led a national effort in the United States Congress against the invasion of Iraq in 2002. While other candidates claim to have provided leadership against the war, Kucinich is the only Democrat running for President who was elected to the Congress at the time of the war vote, and the only candidate to have brought 125 other Congressional leaders to join with him in opposing the rush to war on the dubious claims that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction.

Elizabeth Kucinich joined her husband as the two received a standing ovation from the thousands of activists who attended the Green Festival in Chicago. The candidate was surrounded by well-wishers who closed in so tightly on the candidate that it took one hour for Kucinich to get out of the building where he had spoken.

The event in Chicago was preceded on Saturday by Kucinich's appearance at the National Action Network in New York, where he was invited by 2004 Presidential candidate Al Sharpton. During that conference, Kucinich was also interrupted by wild applause as he talked about his emergence into political life in his hometown of Cleveland, after a youth that was filled with economic challenges for his family. Kucinich is the oldest of seven children. As renters in Cleveland, the large family was often refused housing. A few times the Kucinich children lived with their mother and father in the family car.

Cheney to Face Impeachment

Impeachment may be on the table afterall. After making several videos that were put on his official Presidential Campaign and YouTube websites asking supportor's opinions on the issue, Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) and Presidential Candidate seems to be moving forward with the idea. Rumor has it that Kucinich sent a Dear Colleague letter to his fellow Congressmen last weekend. In the letter Kucinich said he would be filing Articles of Impeacement against Vice President Dick Cheney. The charges against Cheney were not disclosed in the letter and are unknown at this time. It is being said those articles were intended to be filed this past week, but have been postponed until Wednesday, April 25, 2007 due to the tragic events at Virginia Tech.

End fake politics: It is time to bring our troops home to safety, with honor

The War in Iraq will continue, if the Democratic led congress fail to stand up to President Bush. Without cutting off funding, be it today or March 2008, Bush can and will continue to mislead us thru his term and into the next presidents term.

The following article is from Dennis Kucinich's presidential campaign website http://kucinich.us

End fake politics: It is time to bring our troops home to safety, with honor

The American people want this war to end and the troops to be brought home. Why then is this house preparing to capitulate to the Bush White house and let the war continue?

We learned today that the democratic compromise with President Bush is to make withdrawal timetables "non-binding" (meaningless). We have the power to end the occupation now. It is time support our troops by bringing them home by enacting HR1234, the most comprehensive plan to secure Iraq and stabilize the region.

US presence in Iraq is fueling the insurgency. High level officials estimate the HR1234 transition of US, out international peace keeping and security forces in, is possible within three months of Congress cutting funds.

Yet, this house passed a $97 billion supplemental which gives the president money to keep the war going until at least September of 2008. One week later this house approved President Bush's budget for another $195 billion to keep the war going into 2009.

... And now the Democratic leadership are talking about a non-binding timetable for withdrawal?

What is the difference between democrats and republicans on the war? Republicans want no timetable for withdrawal from Iraq. Democrats want a “non-binding” (meaningless) timetable for withdrawal. It's all fake. They are playing politics while our brave men and women are caught in an impossible situation, their very presence fueling the insurgency in Iraq.

It it time for leadership of clarity, courage and integrity.

It is time to bring our troops home to safety, with honor.

Advice to the Edwards campaign get less $400 haircuts and spend some of the money you will save on getting a moderator for your MySpace page. Kucinich Offers Comprehensive Plan to Address Violence in America

Ohio Democratic congressman Dennis Kucinich's congressional website http://kucinich.house.gov/ posted the following press release.

Kucinich Offers Comprehensive Plan to Address Violence in America
The Level of Violence in Society Constitutes a National Emergency; Hand Gun Law Prepared

Washington, Apr 18 - WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 18) — In the aftermath of Monday’s deadly shooting in Blacksburg, Virginia, Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) is proposing a comprehensive, three-point plan to deal with the violence plaguing America, including a ban on handguns.

“The tragic events in Blacksburg, Virginia which took 33 lives are not an isolated example of the effects of gun violence in America. In fact, about 32 people perish each and every day in America in hand gun related incidents,” Kucinich said in a speech to Congress today.

“It is becoming painfully obvious that the easy availability of handguns constituents a growing national crisis of public health and safety, one that calls for a powerful, wide-ranging response from Congress.

“The level of violence in our society constitutes a national emergency. I’m offering an approach to change America’s direction away from death and disintegration and toward life and social cohesiveness.”

Already this Congress, Kucinich has introduced HR 808 and HR 676—two bills that directly relate to the events of Blacksburg. HR 808, legislation to establish a Department of Peace and Nonviolence, addresses the issue of domestic violence, gang violence, and violence in the schools, which is reflected in the current homicide rates. HR 808 has 62 cosponsors.

“The bill provides hope for a transformation through education of our children in principles of nonviolence and support for existing community groups and professionals whose dedication would be empowered by a national commitment to peace and nonviolence,” Kucinich said.

A recent study indicates that many perpetrators of murder had histories of mental illness. The lack of parity for mental healthcare remains one of the most serious deficiencies in healthcare in the United States – the system has long been lacking in substantive support of mental health. HR 676, Medicare for All, would establish a universal not-for-profit healthcare system, which would provide full and comprehensive mental healthcare. More than 14,000 physicians support HR 676 and it is cosponsored by 63 Members of Congress.

Kucinich is currently drafting legislation that would ban the purchase, sale, transfer, or possession of handguns by civilians. A gun buy-back provision will be included in the bill.

“America is being engulfed in violence every day. Let’s show them we have the wisdom and the courage to come from our hearts to meet this challenge,” Kucinich said.

Kucinich Urges Terrorist Be Returned To Venezuela

Ohio Democratic congressman Dennis Kucinich's congressional website http://kucinich.house.gov/ posted the following press release.

Kucinich Urges Terrorist Be Returned To Venezuela

Washington, Apr 17 - WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 17) — Today Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) sent a letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, advocating the immediate return of Cuban-exile Luis Posada Carriles to Venezuela to be tried for his acts of terrorism.

Posada Carriles is a CIA-trained operative implicated in a series of terrorists incidents, including the bombing of the Cubana Airlines civilian airliner that killed 73 people on October 6, 1976. In November 2000, Posada Carriles was arrested in Panama for preparing a bomb to explode in the University of Panama’s Conference Hall, where Fidel Castro was scheduled to deliver a speech.

“The United States must cooperate with the global community to further the protection of our citizens from terrorists. Posada Carriles should be tried for his crimes and will be if extradited to Venezuela. Releasing Posada Carriles would be a grave mistake,” Kucinich said.

“Not only is there a likelihood that he would evade prosecution in the United States and elsewhere, but the United States will be sending the wrong message to the international community. The United States has stated that it will not tolerate the harboring or encouragement of terrorists. We must ensure that this government follows the policies it expounds.”

The letter Kucinich sent stated:

April 17, 2007

Dear Attorney General Gonzales:

It has come to my attention that based on a recent ruling by U.S. District Judge Kathleen Cordone, Luis Posada Carriles may be released on bond from jail in New Mexico. I adamantly oppose the release of Posada Carriles and assert that the decision is inconsistent with respect to our nation’s policy and principles regarding terrorism. This case is important for United States relations with our neighbors in the hemisphere, and for our moral credibility on the so-called “Global War on Terrorism.”

Posada Carriles is a CIA-trained Cuban exile implicated in a series of terrorist incidents, including the bombing of the Cubana Airlines civilian airliner that killed 73 people on October 6, 1976. Evidence in this case has continued to emerge as recently as 2005 when the National Security Archive of George Washington University posted a declassified CIA document from 1976 that quotes Posada Carriles as saying, “We are going to hit a Cuban airplane.”

Additionally, Posada Carriles was a participant in a notorious act of domestic terror that took place here in Washington, D.C., with the bombing that killed former Chilean Foreign Minister Orlando Letelier and his American associate Ronnie Moffitt.

Carter Cornick, a retired counterterrorism specialist for the FBI who worked on the Letelier case, said in an interview with The New York Times that the Cubana Airlines bombing and the Letelier car bombing were planned at a June 1976 meeting in Santo Domingo attended by Posada Carriles. Cornick said that Posada Carriles was involved “up to his eyeballs” in planning the attacks. At the time of these bombings Venezuelan police found maps and other evidence in Posada’s Venezuelan residence that tied him to the terrorist acts.

Furthermore, by evading Venezuelan justice, Posada Carriles has been able to continue committing terrorist crimes in recent years. In a 1998 interview with The New York Times, Posada Carriles claimed responsibility for organizing a series of bombings aimed at Cuban hotels, department stores and other civilian targets during the summer of 1997. These bombings killed an Italian tourist and injured 11 other people.

In November 2000, Posada Carriles was arrested in Panama for preparing a bomb to explode in the University of Panama’s Conference Hall, where Fidel Castro was scheduled to deliver a speech. Hundreds of people were expected to attend this event, and had Cuban intelligence not uncovered the plot beforehand, there would have been massive civilian casualties. Posada Carriles was convicted in a Panamanian court only to be pardoned by Panamanian President Mireya Moscoso just days before she left office in August 2004.

On September 19, 2001, President Bush powerfully reaffirmed our national policy against terrorism: “Anybody who harbors a terrorist, encourages terrorism, will be held accountable. I would strongly urge any nation in the world to reject terrorism, expel terrorists.” As recently as April 10, 2007, President Bush reiterated these sentiments when he said “I vowed that if you harbored a terrorist you’re equally as guilty as the terrorist. That’s a doctrine. In order for this country to be credible, when the President says something, he must mean it. I meant it….”

If Posada Carriles is released on bond, there is a reasonable assumption that he may flee the United States in avoidance of further prosecution by this country and others. To tolerate such an outcome is inconsistent with the stated principles and policy of the United States with respect to the “Global War on Terror” and mars U.S. standing among the international community. As such, to provide Posada Carriles with an opportunity to escape prosecution for acts of terror will compromise the moral credibility of the United States.

I urge the following alternative course of action by the United States: Return Posada Carriles to Venezuela where former Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel has unequivocally stated that Posada Carriles will be tried for his crimes. It is a priority for Venezuela, and it should be a priority for the United States to ensure that Posada Carriles – who escaped from a Venezuelan prison – will not be rewarded in his efforts to evade Venezuelan law. The United States must make it clear that it does not reward terrorists.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response.

Sincerely,
/s/
Dennis J. Kucinich
Member of Congress

Clinton & Obama Continue War Funding - They & Edwards Refuse to Oppose Bush-Cheney Attack on Iran

With the casualities continue to count, the American people are growing more and more impatient with the legislative level. Top tier candidates continue to backtrack on their original war authorization. Many are saying that they were decieved into making the vote that they made. They are pleading this case as though they are anti-war, yet they continue to fund it each and every appropriation. The only candidate that has stood strong with a unwavering stance is Congressman Dennis Kucinich. Kucinich voted against the original war authorization and continues to vote against war appropriations each and every time. So if you want to get out of Iraq, Kucinich has the only plan that will work.

The following article is from Dennis Kucinich's presidential campaign website http://kucinich.us

Clinton & Obama Continue War Funding - They & Edwards Refuse to Oppose Bush-Cheney Attack on Iran

NEW YORK CITY (April 16, 2007) MONDAY – Congressman and Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich is challenging his fellow candidates' votes to authorize and fund the war in Iraq, and their positions on Iran.

"Clinton, Edwards, and Obama share responsibility for wasting hundreds of billions of dollars in an unnecessary war. And the American tax payers on this day need to remember that," Kucinich charged. Hillary Clinton and John Edwards voted to authorize the war. Clinton and Barack Obama continue to vote to fund it.

At a New Hampshire town meeting yesterday, someone asked Clinton about her vote to authorize the war, and asked if she had read the intelligence reports prior to her vote. Senator Clinton is reported to have said that if she had known then what she knows now, she never would have voted to give the President the authority to go to war.

"If Senator Clinton and the others had done their job they would have known, and they would have voted correctly as I did," declared Kucinich, who campaigned yesterday in New Hampshire and Connecticut and appeared live on CNN's night show from New York City.

"I didn't just vote against the war, I shared an in depth analysis with Members of Congress that I wrote in October 2002, after reviewing intelligence reports," Kucinich said.

Kucinich's 2002 Analysis:
http://kucinich.us/files/pdfs/Oct2002Analysis.pdf

"The information that Senator Clinton said she was lacking was available to anyone who wanted to see it," said Kucinich who ran 7 points ahead of Clinton in the Moveon poll released last week. http://tinyurl.com/24x6w8 "Now that she and all the others who voted incorrectly know what they didn't know then, they are still voting the wrong way," Kucinich stated, referring to votes on war funding.

Kucinich also talked about Senator Obama's presidential campaign, where Senator Obama claims to have opposed the war from the start and implies that if he had been in the Senate at the time he would have voted against it. "Senator Obama has a 100 percent record of voting for funding the war in Iraq, as does Senator Clinton," Kucinich said.

Last month, in under a week, the Democrats appropriated $97 billion in supplemental funds for the war and approved the 2008 Bush budget, which not only budgeted $145 billion for the war in 2008, but allocated an additional $50 billion for 2009.

"So much for Democratic timelines," Kucinich observed. "This war needs to end now and Democrats should stop funding it now. The money's in the pipeline now to bring the troops home, and I've written legislation, HR 1234, to begin a process to stabilize Iraq as the U.S. troops leave."

HR 1234: http://kucinich.us/iraqplan

Kucinich challenged his fellow candidates on Iran as well, saying: "All of them, Clinton, Edwards, and Obama, who now say that President Bush was wrong to attack Iraq, are parroting the Bush-Cheney doctrine on preemptive and 'preventive' war on Iran, as they openly state that for Iran 'All options are on the table.'"

Kucinich, the only candidate who has consistently voted against the invasion of Iraq and the funding of the occupation, noted: "Their lack of good judgment raises questions not only about their ability to win in November of 2008, but also raises questions as to whether they have the good judgment, foresight and independence necessary to be President of the United States".

Kucinich: Administration Should Be Ending Tours of Duty Instead of Extending Them

Ohio Democratic congressman Dennis Kucinich's congressional website http://kucinich.house.gov/ posted the following press release.

Kucinich: Administration Should Be Ending Tours of Duty Instead of Extending Them

Washington, Apr 11 - WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 11) — Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Peter Pace today announced the Pentagon will extend tours of duty for all active duty soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan by three months.

“Our men and women in service have been paying the ultimate price in the Administration’s misguided Iraq policy for more than four years,” Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) said.

“We need to use the money that is in the pipeline to end the tours of duty for all soldiers indefinitely.

“The last thing our soldiers need right now is to be told they have three more months of service before they will be reunited with their families.

“This Administration’s falsifications for an illegal war have been responsible for the deaths of more than 3,200 Americans and approaching one million Iraqis.

“There is only one way to end the war and that is to stop the funding. Congress will have one more chance after President Bush vetoes the Iraq funding bill to end the war. Our troops, the American people and the Iraqi people cannot afford to wait.”

Barack Obama remains the trend-setter in Week 2 on MySpace as he continues to pick up more friends than any other candidate. The only change in the power rankings this week was I moved Hillary Clinton up to second spot. The past week was more productive for Clinton as she friended twice as many people as the previous second place John Edwards. Second tier candidates are a considerible distance behind the top tier candidates and there was no real movement this past week for any of them.

Barack Obama remains the trend-setter in Week 2 on YouTube as he continues to pick up more subscriptions than any other candidate. The only change in the power rankings this week was I moved Hillary Clinton up to second spot. This past week was more productive for Clinton as she gathered 42 more subscriptions than the previous second place John Edwards. Second tier candidates are a considerible distance behind the top tier candidates and there was no real movement this past week for any of them. Then there is Chris Dodd who is not having much luck at all with this social networking thing. Attention Senator Dodd, maybe you should hire up a couple college students to help craft a social networking plan that will be competitive with the rest.

Barack Obama is top choice in MoveOn.org's Virtual Town Hall Meeting on the Iraq War

Barack Obama was the top choice in MoveOn.org's first ever "virtual town hall meeting" on Tuesday April 10, 2007. MoveOn.org is a progressive community of 3.3 million Americans who work on education and advocacy on important national issues. This was the first of three "virtual town hall meetings" that MoveOn.org will host this year. The topic of the meeting was the Iraq War with the other two meetings scheduled for this summer on the issues of Health Care and Global Warming.

MoveOn.org members were polled on who has the best plan for the Iraq War after the meeting and here are the results.

Sen. Barack Obama 28%
Sen. John Edwards 25%
Rep. Dennis Kucinich 17%
Gov. Bill Richardson 12%
Sen. Hillary Clinton 11%
Sen. Joe Biden 6%
Sen. Chris Dodd 1%

Barack Obama and John Edwards slugged it out for the win, with Obama taking it by a slim margin of 28%-25%. This result was not of a surprise as these two candidates are top tier candidates and are polling high nationally.

Surprise of the night had to be Dennis Kucinich. The members of the MoveOn.org community really loved his plan to end the war placing him third with 17%. This is a great result for a guy who has been only polling 1-2% so far nationally.

Hillary Clinton's campaign had to go away very disappointed by only scoring 11% and finishing a miserable fifth place in the seven candidate show. Clinton had been polling in the high 30% bracket the entire race so far. Could this be the beginning of a downward spiral for the media made Clinton? Lets hope so!!

Bill Richardson and Joe Biden also were able to steal some of the votes away from Clinton on the night. Richardson polled 12% which is excellent for the New Mexico Governor who has been polling 3-4%. Biden polled 6% compared to his normal 2-3%. And finally Chris Dodd, well he didn't do much of anything as he polled his normal 1%.

First 100 days of 2007 in Iraq

Today was the 100th day of the year of 2007 and the Iraq War is continuing with no end in site. During these first 100 days the 4th anniversary of the start of Iraqi Freedom has come and gone, so has the 4th anniversary of our capture of Baghdad. The most alarming happening in Iraq in the first 100 days is the loss of 289 American lives. That is above comprehension, at the pace we are on we will lose 1,055 brave young men and women this year alone. That would make for the deadliest year in Iraq during the entire war, with the previous deadliest being in 2004 with 849 casualties.

Mr. President what the hell are we doing? I thought the troops surge that is going into its 3rd month was going to curb the violence. It looks to be doing the exact opposite as what you said, the casualties are mounting at the highest rate in the entire 4 year occupation. We the people of this fine land have had enough and demand action now. The only solution is a immediate withdrawal, anything less is going to continue the spiral downward. The plan that seems to make the most sence is already drafted and can be found embodied in H.R. 1234

H.R. 1234 is a bill sponsored by Congressman and Democratic Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich (D-OH). The key components of the bill would bring our troops home now with the help of the U.N. Security Council who would replace our troops with NATO peace keeping troops. Along with bringing our troops home it would help us rebuild relations with a world who have had it with our thuggish ways. It is a great workable plan take a few minutes and look into it yourself.

Obama: Kucinich has a devil-may-care attitude

Last night (April 9, 2007) Barack Obama appeared on the Late Night with David Letterman Show. The following exchange took place during the interview.

Letterman: “Yes, a high profile of powerful, well-respected individuals. Yourself and Hilary Clinton are two that come to mind. Is having those well known, those highly qualified desirable candidates running for the nomination, is that healthy for the party?”

Obama: “I think it is good. We’ve got terrific candidates, not just myself and Hillary. You’ve got John Edwards, who’s run a terrific campaign so far; Bill Richardson, a terrific governor; I’ve got a couple of colleagues, Chris Dodd and Joe Biden and Dennis Kucinich from Congress, and so we’ve got a great collection of candidates.”

Letterman: (laughs) “Now, you’re kidding about Kucinich, right?” (audience laughs)

Obama:: “ No, no, you know, he, uh, he spices things up, you know. He has that devil-may-care-attitude that I think is healthy for a presidential race.”

Devil-may-care-attitude?

Sounds like Senator Obama thinks it is ok to take cheap shots at other candidates. It appears that Obama thinks Kucinich is nothing more than a happy, reckless individual in other words the jester, the guy to poke fun of on the campaign trail.

I think this is very unappropriate behavior coming from Senator Obama. If Senator Biden can't call him articulate or FOX news make a joke about GW Bush with Obama's name in it then he has no grounds to take cheap shots at other candidates. It seems like Obama is protected under some media classification of "Choosen One" when it comes to what can and can not be said.

Social Networking in the Democratic Party Week 1: Obama is early trend setter on both YouTube and MySpace

Social networking looks like it is going to be a efficient way for the candidates to get there name and views out to the masses this election cycle. So I have decided to pick up on it and will be doing weekly analyzing of the Democrats. For the time being I will only focus my attention on the 2 networking sites who have actually made specific pages for the candidates, namely YouTube "You Choose" and MySpace Imapct.

#3 Hillary Clinton8631 - -
#4 Bill Richardson2216 - -
#5 Dennis Kucinich1905 - -
#6 Joe Biden1494 - -
#7 Chris Dodd642 - -

Barack Obama is far and away the trend setter in Week 1 on MySpace. But the true strength of his MySpace page will be seen over the coming weeks as he has a gigantic lead due in part to his carry over of his page from before to MySpace Impact. Obama and Edwards were the only Democratic candidates that did not start a new MySpace page when MySpace initiated the Impact program. John Edwards has a considerable lead over 3rd place Hillary Clinton but like I said before time will test the strength of the Edwards page.

Second tier candidates are a considerible distance behind the top tier candidates. But they are bunched together so who pokes ahead of the rest may become a viable candidate. Bill Richardson leads in the second tier pack, with Dennis Kucinich and Joe Biden in reasonable range. Chris Dodd is the bottom feeder on MySpace with only a fraction of friends of even the second tier candidates and it appears they aren't using social networking to the extent of the other campaigns.

Barack Obama is far and away the trend setter in week 1 on YouTube. Obama is handily ahead of the other top tier candidates John Edwards and Hillary Clinton who have very similar numbers to each other so far. On the other end of the spectrum Chris Dodd must not be putting much effort so far into the social networking as he is not getting much support at all. He is barely registering a 1/3 the support of his nearest rivals Joe Biden and Bill Richardson. And all to his lonesome stuck out in the middle is Dennis Kucinich whom over the next few weeks his pace will decide if he can make a move towards the top or will he fall to the trenches.

Kucinich: Release of British Personnel Proves the Value of Diplomacy

Ohio Democratic congressman Dennis Kucinich's congressional website http://kucinich.house.gov/ posted the following press release.

Kucinich: Release of British Personnel Proves the Value of Diplomacy

Washington, Apr 4 - WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 4) — Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) commended Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for resolving the issue of the 15 British sailors and marines detained by Iran and announcing their release today.

“President Ahmadinejad’s announcement proves the value of diplomacy,” Kucinich said. “The United States should be using diplomacy with Iran instead of rattling the sabers and ramping up for another war.

“I’m glad to see the Iranian President utilized the instrument of diplomacy to extend amnesty to the 15 British citizens.

“Time and time again, Iran has offered to enter into dialogue with the United States, including an offer to resolve tension with the state of Israel. But this Administration has shut the door to dialogue and put the United States on a track toward a military conflict with Iran.

“Instead of sending a second aircraft carrier toward the Persian Gulf, the United States should be focused on promoting diplomatic talks. The news of the Iranian release of British captives proves that we can talk to Iran to solve our differences, and we should.”
