Kucinich Mourns the Loss of Lady Bird Johnson

Washington, Jul 11 - Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) released the following statement after learning former first lady Lady Bird Johnson died at the age of 94.

“My wife Elizabeth and I send our deepest sympathies to the Johnson family during this difficult time. We are mourning the loss of a great American who continued to give so much to her country,” Kucinich said.

“Lady Bird Johnson’s environmental consciousness should serve as an example for all to live by. She focused on beatifications, specifically cleaning up unsightly billboards and worked tirelessly to improve the aesthetics of our nation’s highways.

“She stood by President Johnson during some of the most difficult events in America’s modern history and provided support and strength to her husband. Lady Bird worked persistently for her husband’s political ambitions, but always valued her family above all.

“Her death is not only a great loss for the Johnson family, but it is a loss for the nation as well. The former first lady will be greatly missed. Elizabeth and I extend our thoughts and prayers to the Johnson family at this time.”
